DHV
Amersfoort, HOLLAND
DHV is a global engineering consultancy. Operating in 30 countries in Europe, Africa and Asia, DHV employs 4,000 consultants. The company offers consultation, designs and operational management services in areas as extensive as transport infrastructures, water supply, construction and urban planning.
The headquarters of DHV was built in 1970 in Amersfoort, a small city near Amsterdam. The first buildings (A, B & C) were built as landscape offices, a progressive style at the time. As DHV grew, more space was needed and the company added a new adjacent building (D-Building) in 2000, when the overall layout was renewed.

The biggest change was the significant improvement in flexibility, through introduction of the non-territorial concept. Employees who arrive at the office would connect his or her own laptop to the large monitor and keyboard on each desk. A specially designed furniture unit "Spot & Share," suits both continuous and touchdown uses. For many consultants who come here to work as a team, there is sufficient space for various types of meeting rooms, most of which can be used without reservation.

This office is a physical representation of "sustainability," a DHV keyword. Use of natural materials, pursuit of energy conservation and flexile workplaces are all part of the showcase for the technologies DHV has accumulated in the area of sustainable architecture.
