SHAKLEE
Pleasanton, California, USA
Since 1956, Shaklee has been producing and selling its own nutritional supplements as well as skin-care and home-care products. A pioneer in the field of nutritional supplements, the company is also known for its unique sales strategy of direct sales through distributors without having to rely on retailers.

The headquarters of Shaklee, completed in 1999, uses recycled materials and pursues energy conservation. Drenched in sunlight, it is an environmentally friendly office where architecture, greenery, office furniture and carpeting all carry the company message of "Harmony with Nature."

The first step in "Harmony with Nature," was taken by synchronizing with the outdoors. While realizing a comfortable environment, energy cost was reduced, and recycled material was used wherever possible in order to minimize the effect on the environment. Natural wood and stone surfaces are subtly embedded in many places.

In spatial planning, sufficient common spaces were created to foster a sense of community among workers. The main gallery connects office wings, marking a clear diagram for easy orientation.

All workstations, even those assigned to executives, are open and passages are spacious, encouraging face-to-face communication among workers from different departments. Spaces for informal meetings are located throughout, such as staircase landings and the hearth area on each floor.
