TBWA/CHIAT/DAY
Playa del Rey, California, USA
CHIAT/DAY, founded by Jay Chiat and Guy Day in 1968 in Los Angeles, came under the umbrella of OmniCom in the early 1990s. In 1995 it was merged with TBWA, a giant with an extensive advertising network in 120 cities in 64 countries. Since the days of Chiat/Day, it has been pursuing innovation not only in its advertising work but also the workplace where it is created.
Since the merger, to accommodate the increased workforce of 500, a warehouse in Playa del Rey was converted as their new office. The shell was left untouched, while a new ‘city’ was created within the warehouse, by creating buildings within a building. A gatehouse was added with a unique landmark appearance, serving as a main entrance and reception. After checking in at the gatehouse visitors will walk through the bridge and enter the ‘Advertising City.’
All 500 workers can work on the one floor. The Creative Unit was placed in the center of the building, in a three-tiered structure called Cliff Dwelling, housing semi-private offices for creative directors and copywriters. The NEST workstations were custom designed, which can easily be relocated with the help of subfloor cable network, suitable for the flexible work style of the industry.
