ANDERSEN WORLDWIDE Chicago, Illinois, USA Andersen Worldwide (AWW) is the world’s leading provider of professional services, consisting of Arthur Andersen for auditing services and Andersen Consulting for business consulting services. It is a giant organization, employing 105,000 workers in total and operating 381 offices in 79 countries. Andersen Worldwide Services (AWWS) in Chicago is a unique organization serving as an in-house consultant to the member groups of AWW by offering services such as tax related financial planning and human resource development. The result of several workplace experiments in various countries and intensive workshop and surveys was the innovative and unique NEIGHBORHOOD concept. In the new office even the CFO and his assistant use identical open workstations. Every team has a neighborhood, within which each person has a workstation. When the need occurs, a common closed office or meeting rooms for a small group may be used. To complement the lack of privacy, a hundred mobile phones were supplied. Whenever a confidential conversation became necessary, a worker would occupy a closed space that is commonly accessible. Such privacy was previously only available to those with private offices, is now available for everyone. In the previous building the office occupied 22 floors, but now only 5 and a half floors are being used.
