OWENS CORNING
Toledo, Ohio, USA |
 |
|
 |
 |
 |
| Since 1938, Owens Corning has been a global leader in glass
synthetic materials and construction materials. The company has a workforce of
24,000 with offices in 30 countries around the world. With the 21st Century approaching,
the company underwent a radical reform from its traditional organization to a
flat and interactive organization. The new headquarters completed in Toledo, Ohio,
reflects the new organizational structure in the horizontal and flat offices. |
 |
 |
 |
| The new headquarters is mainly divided into two sections.
The Village, with elements of service and support, and the office area called
the Arc. The Village is composed of facilities to support the employees, from
a conference center to mini-mart and medical centers, they resemble functions
of a town. The office area, in a nutshell, has small private spaces, and
large spaces for group interactions. The churn rate of the company is high
at 130%, so the offices are flexible, ready for any relocation with subfloor wiring.
The individual workplaces are open cubicles, and whenever privacy is needed for
concentration, a quiet room may be used. Besides the team rooms that are available
for presentations and video conferencing, there are 120 informal communication
spaces equipped with activity tables and mobile easels. |
