| Electronic Arts(EA) is the world's leading game software
developer and publisher, fueling the game boom in America. Since its launch in
1984, the company has published 22 games that sold more than a million copies.
The gross sales in 2002 topped 2.4 billion, and the workforce has reached 4,200.
The driving force behind its growth is the talented creators it retains. |

Following the purchase of land in 1995, EA built two office
buildings and an amenity building 'Commons' in 1998, as Phase 1. For the second
phase, a studio building of 80,000 square feet was planned to house their game
development division. The goal of this phase was to create an environment to suit
the work and life styles of game creators. After a study was conducted on the
preferences and activities of the most productive team, it was concluded that
the best formula was to have a large open floor where each team had its own territory
with bullpen workspaces, accompanied by a closed war room and open meeting spaces.
The cubicles were placed on the inside, for creators who mostly preferred darker
environment. There is no main corridor and the arrangement is maze-like, protecting
all offices and preserving their privacy.
The campus offers various amenities, so creators who spend over 14 hours a day
in their office can still run their daily errands. These facilities are located
in different buildings, encouraging to interact with colleagues from different
division, and to re-identify as a member of EA. |
